Reviewing Comments

Since all student comments are hidden from view, and must be approved before they are visible in the
appropriate thread, teachers are asked to approve a comment before it will be seen. These comments may be
comments from your own students, responding to one of your postings, or they may be comments from a user
across the country. Only teachers will be asked to review comments upon login.

The purpose of the comment review is to determine if a comment is acceptable or unacceptable, not to judge the
actual contents of the comment. When reviewing a comment, you will not know what the comment is in response to. We are asking you to review the comment and to confirm that it does not contain any unsuitable or improper information, or student names or any potentially harmful or hurtful wording.

Occasionally you maybe asked to approve comments from a student that is not your own. We ask this of all teachers in order
to help encourage student participation, and reduce teacher workload. Students expect their comments to appear in a timely
manner, and are more likely to post and participate if they see their responses in a blog. By all teachers to approve
comments, the time it takes for a students comment to appear is much less than if their teacher had to approve all comments
from their own students. By spreading comment approval to all teachers, comments will appear faster, and
teachers will not become overwhelmed.

You will be able to rate a comment based on four criteria:

Approve.  This will make the comment visible. Approving this
comment means only that the comment contains noting
inappropriate or compromising. Once the comment has been approved, users will be able to give more
specific awards.

Reject.  Comment will be censored and never seen, however
the author of the comment will not be punished. There are
cases where this is the appropriate actions, perhaps a comment
is mistakenly submitted incomplete or is a double submission.
Generally though, if a comment isn’t inappropriate or
compromising, it should be accepted. Don’t be overzealous as
a censor.

Inappropriate.  Vulgar, hateful, discriminate or otherwise
inappropriate for the audience.

Compromising.  A real name of otherwise sensitive or
personal information about a user is revealed.

Please only review for appropriateness, not content when
reviewing comments. Users who read the entire posting will
evaluate postings, and give awards based on content.
